LEGISLATION ON BORNHOLM

Many tourists request areas permitted to detecting on Bornholm.
- We recommend everybody to leave their detectors at home.

The legislation
It is not permitted to use detectors at public areas like beaches and forests.

On private area it is only permitted with the permission of the owner.

Remember that you are not allowed to step on protected ancient monuments like tumulus/burial mounds.

Agreements have been made with amateur archaeologists of Bornholm
A very engaged association of amateur archaeologists has special agreements with the majority of landowners on the island, which makes it is very difficult to find areas to detect on you own.

Archaeological finds
If you make finds when detecting, please locate your finding with GPS (system WGS 84 UTM).
You must show the archaeological finds to the land owner before handing them to Bornholms Museum.

Here they will be assessed to either be part of the collection or given back to the finder.
